FATIGUE DESIGN OF SHIP STRUCTURES

This paper presents the main philosophy behind the recently developed guideline from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) on fatigue assessment of ship structures. The procedures and recommendations defined are included in the DNV computational package Nauticus Hull. Procedures for estimating the accumulated fatigue damage in a ship structural detail over the design life is presented. The fatigue damage under time varying loading is estimated assuming linear cumulative damage, where master S-N curves are defined for the local notch stress. Procedures for establishing the local long term stress range distribution depending on the location of the detail within the ship are given for different complexity levels.
