DEVELOPMENT OF THE SHIP STRUCTURAL 3-D MODEL THE CAPP

CAPP (Computer Aided Process Planning) is one of the important application systems for establishing the framework for a shipbuilding Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) system. In this paper, the methodology for constructing an initial structural 3-D model from a midship structural arrangement and hull form is proposed. It simulates block division and calculates the material information such as length of jointing edges between part elements. To verify the proposed methodology, the programs are implemented for the automatic construction of a 3-D structural model of the cargo hold and stem part of double hull oil tankers with information of the midship section only. For the internal data structure of geometry and geometric calculation, ACIS is used as a programming library, this is a type of solid modelling kernel library with an open architecture. For the visualization of a constructed ship structural model, PEX (PHIGS Extension to X) library was used. The algorithm that can retrieve the topological and geometrical information from the ship model was implemented to calculate material information. The simulation of block division is performed by a function of CAPP assistant program developed as a prototype in this research.
