DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR PIPE FABRICATION DRAWING AND BOM INTERFACE

Piping design is considered the most important part of a ship's outfitting design because it manipulates many quantities of material and working man hours compared to other design fields. Although there are many types of commercial CAD systems for piping systems, it is difficult to apply them directly to shipbuilding for use in most shipyards. In this paper, a specialized CAD program for pipe fabrication drawing and COM interface based on CADAM which is a general purpose CAD system is described. It is shown to be very efficient in reducing design time and improving design accuracy for piping systems design.
