PLASTIC DESIGN OF WEB OPENINGS IN STEEL BEAMS
Steel bemas and girders used in building construction are sometimes required to accommodate the passage of ductwork or piping through openings in the web. A method is presented for the determination of the amount of reinforcing required at such a rectangular web opening and for estimating the load capacity in shear and flexure using plastic design principles.
