AIR INDEPENDENT PROPULSION
Air independent propulsion is examined including Germany's Polymer Electroltye Membrane Fuel Cell for the U-212 submarine which is making good progress, the Stirling engine AIP developed in Sweden which has been operational for some time, and a new generation of diesel electric submarines built with an integral Stirling AIP which are about to enter service.
