ANALYSIS OF THE POTENTIAL FOR APPLYING PERFORMANCE SUPPORT SYSTEMS TO THE TRUCKING INDUSTRY
This report begins with a needs analysis to identify areas which represent opportunities for Canadian trucking competitiveness. The analysis examines three cultures within the industry: management, drivers, and dispatchers. The report then presents a technology analysis that reviews computer-based products available in North America and Europe for the trucking industry. The products reviewed include tools for routing, scheduling, dispatching, and fleet management, as well as products under development. Finally, the report presents a task analysis carried out to discover what tasks trucking managers are required to perform. The appendix includes a list of available software products and an outline of decision support concepts, along with the names of software products for applying those concepts.
