TRANSPORT AND THE ENVIRONMENT: THE LINACRE LECTURES 1994-95
Road traffic in the UK is expected to double by the year 2025. It is generally agreed that growth of this order is unsustainable, and would lead to unacceptably high air pollution and traffic congestion if it actually occurred. This book presents the printed versions of the 1994-95 Linacre Lectures at Oxford University, where eight experts on transport, land use, and the environment analyse this problem and discuss possible solutions. They discuss several aspects of transport and sustainability, in relation to road traffic growth, railways, the Channel Tunnel, air travel, land use, the oil industry, and environmental pollution caused by transport. For abstracts of individual chapters see IRRD 885113-885120.
