PARKING METERS - THEIR FUTURE
Operational problems experienced with parking meters are listed and improvements to the design are suggested. A redesigned meter incorporating all of these features is envisaged. This would be an entirely electronic device, depending for activation on the insertion of an individual pre-programmed card. The card would be purchased, charged with a given parking load and programmed in such a way that meter feeding was impracticable. Each insertion of the card would result in the discharge of the appropriate amount of parking time. /TRRL/
