EVALUATION OF THE TEAM TRAIN-THE-TRAINER PROGRAM. FINAL REPORT
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management (TEAM) Train-the-Trainer workshops. Effectiveness was measured in terms of the success facility representatives had, after attending a TEAM Train-the-Trainer workshop, in implementing a TEAM program and TEAM program components. Evaluation data were collected through a mail/telephone survey of training participants and through on-site interviews with managers, vendors, tenants and staff at four facilities. The major study findings were: 79% of the workshop participants were able to establish various components of the TEAM program at their facility as well as conduct a review and analysis of their facility's alcohol service policy; 75% of the participants reported that important alcohol service policies and procedures had been identified and changed; 58% of the participants said that some level of TEAM training for facility employees had been implemented; and 45% said that PI&E efforts regarding drinking and driving behavior had been expanded. Also, while there was no direct corroborating data, implementation of a TEAM program did not seem to have an impact on facility attendance, may have had a slight effect on alcohol sales, and did seem to be accompanied by a reduced number of alcohol-related incidents. Based upon these results, recommendations are given that may be useful for the TEAM program particularly in the areas of employee training and public information activities.
