VIBRATORS COULD BENEFIT UK ASPHALT ROADS
The advantages of self-propelled vibrating rollers are briefly described. Though they are used widely in Europe for earth and asphalt compaction the trend towards this type of equipment has yet to catch on in UK. It is said that one of the faster types of vibrating roller could take the place of 2 or 3 current deadweights and enable the paver to go faster but retain the same compaction specification by adjusting the amplitude and frequency to suit the bituminous material. The author also states that these vibrators are better for laying chippings. Short descriptions of some of the machines available are given.
