DESIGNING AND OPERATING WORK ZONES FOR INCREASED ROAD SAFETY
This paper describes a manual on work zone safety. There are three main parts: work zones in rural areas; work zones in a locality; and work zones on motorways. Recommended measures depend on the duration of work zone, traffic volume, and the type of work. Special measures and traffic control devices are recommended for moving work zones. All measures (about 80 Traffic System Plans) are described in detail and illustrated with patterns of temporary traffic signs in work zones. The Traffic System Plans cover all known possibilities in rural areas, in a locality, and on motorways.
