THE EFFECT OF CHANGE IN TRANSPORT RESPONSIBILITIES

The fundamental changes in transport responsibility since reoganisation following on the interoduction of the Local Government Act 1972, which contained important transport provisions have helped councils to rationalise strategic planning and transport procedures. The author suggests that rationalisation has undoubtedly been accelerated by the introduction of the Transport Planning Policy (TPP) system, bringing with it the need for counties and districts to co-ordinate transportation policies. The changes in responsibility are considered to be of major significance and their effects, and particularly the problems of co-ordination with districts in local plan preparation are reviewed in this article. /TRRL/
