BBC DEMONSTRATES ITS PROPOSED DRIVER INFORMATION SERVICE
Proposals by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for small-area broadcasting of traffic information are outlined. A network of about 80 low-power medium-wave transmitters would be set up in the pattern of a grid covering the whole country, each station being about 50km from its neighbour in any direction. All the stations would operate on a single, medium frequency which would be just within the tuning range of a medium-wave receiver. Individual stations in an area would each broadcast in turn for a short time, such as 30 seconds once every eight minutes. Limited trails are being carried out. /TRRL/
