COSTING THE EFFECTS OF BAD WEATHER
The authors describe their technique for assessing the effects of weather on construction projects. Their theoretical method uses networks as the basis for planning work or no work decisions for each activity on an hourly basis controlled by historical weather data. A flow chart is given of the computer model which evaluates the effects of windspeed rainfall and temperature. Results are given from tests of the simulation model on two reinforced concrete projects; using these results the economic level of providing protection to the placing of wet concrete can be established. The optimum design and method of handling formwork and shuttering can be selected. The increase in production costs from rainfall stoppages can be compared to the cost of providing weatherproofing. Future developments of the model are indicated. /TRRL/
