TECHNICAL REGULATIONS AT GOVERNMENT LEVEL FOR PROTECTIVE SAFETY IN MOTOR VEHICLES

LES PRESCRIPTIONS TECHNIQUES A L'ECHELON GOUVERNEMENTAL POUR LA SECURITE PROTECTIVE DANS LES VEHICLUES AUTOMOBILE

Wp29 is a UNO group of experts on vehicle construction, who have to date developed and approved 50 technical rules and more than 60 regulations covering all aspects of the technical characteristics of vehicles and their equipment. This article is mainly a detailed review of 17 of these regulations dealing specifically with the protective safety of vehicles as follows: n.11, door locks and hinges; N.12, protection of the driver in the case of impact against console or steering column; n.14, seat belt anchorages; n.16, seat belts for adults; n.17, the strength and Anchorage of seats; n.21, the interior of the passenger compartment and its equipment; n.22, crash helmets; N.25, head restraints; n.26, exterior projections on vehicles; n.29, the strength of the driving compartment of heavy vehicles; n.33, the behaviour of the passenger compartment in frontal collisions; n32, the behaviour of the passenger compartment in rear end collisions; n.34, the reduction of fire risk with particular regard to petrol in case of collision; n.36, particular construction features of buses and coaches; a, the reduction of the consequences to passengers in the case of overturning on to the roof; b, reducing the consequences to passengers when a soft-top or detachable top vehicle overturns; and c, the behaviour of the structure of the passenger compartment in the case of lateral impact. /TRRL/
