LATERITE AS A HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL
The paper presents the mode of occurrence, nature, definition, classification and chemistry of laterite. The wide distribution of laterite in many parts of the world and its relation to the existing land-form have been described. Some aspects of engineering properties of laterite, lateritic gravel and soil and their scope as a highway constructional material, either as such or after scientifically processing them have been discussed. The field performance of some of the roads and airfields constructed using laterite aggregates together with A suitable method of evaluation of such type of low grade aggregates, in wet state have also been included.
