STUDY OF SUBJECTIVE AND OBJECTIVE TRAVEL TIME AND DISTANCE PARAMETERS IN TRANSPORTATION SURVEYS
In determining the choice function on mode-split analysis differences between the perceived and measured attributes of time and distance are studied for different categories of urban population. Data obtained from the Ahmedabad metropolitan planning organisation has been used in this investigation. For commuters performing travel for work purposes, it is observed that the perceived values of times and distances vary in accordance with the normal distribution. This implies that the expected value would be around zero subject of course to rounding; reporting and antimodal biases. It is concluded that in investigating those trips which are regular and familiar, objective measurements provide a sound data base, especially keeping in view the future forecasting requirements. /TRRL/
