"TEXAS-SIZED" BRIDGE SPANS HOUSTON SHIP CHANNEL
In Texas, they do things big. The Fred Hartman Bridge is no exception. This article describes the design, construction, and cost of the cable-stayed bridge that links the Texas communities of Baytown and La Porte. The Fred Hartman Bridge replaces a 40-year-old tunnel with a 25,000 vehicle-per-day capacity. The bridge can handle 200,000 vehicles per day and serves as a hurricane escape route for those traveling north on Texas 146.
