ARI HELPS GERMAN DRIVERS, ALI MAY DO EVENTUALLY

Systems of area broadcasting at present being developed in Germany are briefly described. The ari (autofahrer-rundfunk-information) system was introduced into the federal republic in June 1974. It helps the motorist more easily to receive general traffic broadcasts in the area through which he is travelling. The ali (autofahrer-lenkungs und informations) system provides route guidance and information for the particular journey being undertaken. The federal republic is subdivided into destination zones, one of which is selected by the driver on a dashboard selector. As the vehicle approaches a junction, the destination code is transmitted to a roadside interrogator unit. Information concerning the route is transmitted from the unit to a display panel in the vehicle. /TRRL/
