THE STREETSCAPE OF THE FUTURE

The article presents a case for the extensive use of concrete paving and other forms of concrete for upgrading and improving residential streetscapes. Ideally, a residential street should be a safe place for walking and cycling, besides providing access for motor vehicles. Concrete offers planners a great variety of colour and shape for its excellent products such as interlocking concrete pavers. Excellent finishes can also be obtained for in-situ concrete, with good colours for a wide range of products. Concrete materials offer different finished appearances, a wide range of style, high durability, and good strength and skid resistance. The article discusses how these concrete products can be used to fulfil the functions and residents' requirements for a residential street, and provide a safe environment and areas for good social interaction. It also describes concrete systems for property protection, retention, fences, and streetscape paving.
