MUDDLING THROUGH THE MAZE OF LIABILITY FOR MULTIMODAL MISHAPS
Multimodalism has provided huge benefits in cargo handling and delivery, but it has also produced a great tangle of liabilities. This paper first explores how the multiple liability regimes impact in the event of a casualty. In particular, it details the array of differing limits of liability that may be brought into operation before it examines the resulting profusion of claims. The subsequent discussion about the settlement procedures for all these claims leads to concluding predictions about an unified system of regulating the multimodal transport industry.
