FLEET MIX CHANGES OF 5 AND 6 AXLE TRACTOR SEMITRAILERS
This paper reports the trends in truck fleet mix in some provinces in western Canada and compares the physical and operational characteristics of the 5- and 6-axle conventional tractor-semitrailers (i.e. 3-S2 and #-S3). The paper is directed at investigating the relative productivity and efficiency characteristics of these trucks. the analysis provides possibe explanations supported by quantitative information for the shifts in the fleet mix and offers suggestions for future trends ini the fleet mix changes. Attributes considered include, average operating gross vehicle weights, average payloads, equivalent pavement loading and dynamic performance characteristics.
