A REVIEW OF ROLLTITE'S TECHNICAL FEATURES
The Rolltite hatch cover is effectively a continuous sheet which is opened by rolling on to a powered stowage drum at the hatch end. To close the cover, the drum rotation is merely reversed. Opening and closing is fully automatic and controlled by push buttons. The design of the cleating ensures totally automatic action. Rolltite is similar to the ubiquitous Single Pull cover in that the hatch opening is closed by a multiplicity of steel panels, each comprising a top plate and supporting beams. The individual elements from which Rolltite is composed are rather short, about 1.5m. long. Watertightness around the periphery of the hatch is provided by an adaptation of the well-established sealing system utilizing a compression bar and a synthetic rubber seal comprising a compact skin and a resilient sponge.
