PAN-EUROPEAN RDS-TMC TRAFFIC INFORMATION SERVICES (DEFI INITIATIVE)
The DEFI Initiative prepares the way for introducing RDS-TMC traffic information services with a pan-European perspective. This paper describes the state of the art for RDS-TMC traffic information services in Europe and the terms of reference for DEFI. Then, coordination of European implementation is described followed by the definition of the pan-European perspective including the content and the quality of the services. Further aspects addressed include the continuity and availability of the services, interoperability of receivers on different services and compatibility of in-vehicle equipment. Finally, next steps are identified to turn this initiative into full European implementation.
