ITE EUROPEAN TOUR REPORT
From September 23 to October 1, 1993, thirteen transportation engineering professionals and one spouse participated in a tour of several Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS) sites and planning facilities in Europe. Eleven visits were made in three countries. In the Netherlands, visits were made to Delft University, Rijkswaterstaat Transport Research Centre, TNO Defence Research, and Philips Research. Bundesanstalt Fuer Strasseswesen (BAST), City of Cologne, and Daimler Benz were visited in Germany. Visits were made to INRETS, Centre National D'Information Routiere, Cofiroute and Service Interdepartmental D'Exploitation Routiere in France. During the tour, the participants were able to compare IVHS in the United States and South Africa with that in the countries visited. This paper presents some of their observations.
