TRANSPORTATION/LAND USE SYMPOSIUM: BALANCING LAND USE PRIORITIES WITH TRANSPORTATION NEEDS. SYMPOSIUM PROCEEDINGS

The focus of this symposium was graphically expressed in the logo designed for it and used in conjunction with most of its literature -- scales in balance with a home in one pan, and automobile and a bicyclist in the other. Both sides are existing in an equilibrium -- a balance symbolically tinged with overtones of socio-economic justice. The audience consisted of elected officials, professional planners of one specialty or another, members of the business community, representatives of law enforcement agencies, and residents of area municipalities at-large. Topics covered at the symposium include mixed-use land development, public transit, preservation of transportation corridors, traffic congestion, snow removal, and neighborhood development. Two case studies were presented.
