THE PLACE OF TESTING IN BRIDGE EVALUATION AND REPAIR
There is still a perception that because non-destructive testing gives relative rather than absolute information, then its value is severely limited. It is the authors' beliefs that some of the ingenuity that manufacturers and practitioners lavish on their equipment should be directed to the education of the engineering profession in not only the appreciation but also the meaning and interpretation of non-destructive tests. In this paper, the authors present some suggestions for routes along which this education process might be directed.
