PASS-BY NOISE DEVELOPMENT AND ANALYSIS AT MIRA

With the recent introduction of EC directive 92/97/EEC, which introduces more stringent pass-by noise legislation to Europe, car manufacturers need to identify carefully which areas of their vehicles require refinement by objective evaluation, in order to comply with the new targets. To assist vehicle manufacturers in achieving these targets, a new measurement and analysis system has been developed by MIRA, to enable manufacturers to rank objectively the individual noise sources which contribute to the overall noise levels emitted by their vehicles. MIRA SILENT is an on-site sophisticated data acquisition system capable of measuring both the emitted noise levels and the vehicle data, during pass-by tests. The new MIRA facility has been designed to provide engineers with both data acquisition and source ranking analysis while on the MIRA ISO noise surface. Significant reductions in time taken to test, analyse and produce results have been achieved by the system and MIRA can now produce initial standard test results within seconds of the test occurring.
