MEASURING THE VALUE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT PROVISION USING GIS

This paper illustrates how GIS can be used to improve the measurement and display of public transport accessibility. It uses, as examples, work carried out by the London Borough of Croydon and by their consultants, MVA Systematica. The paper begins by outlining the needs and requirements for two linked projects - an Accessibility Study and a Patronage Study. The reasons behind adopting GIS as the tool to satisfy these needs are stated. The resulting output from the Accessibility model is described and illustrated on a step by step basis. The Patronage model output is also described and illustrated. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 881556.
