TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION: THE FOUNDATION OF ITS IMPLEMENTATION
Integration of new technologies into existing transportation systems is a key to the successful research, development, and implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). This paper describes insights into the process of technology integration based upon experience at the Texas A&M ITS Research Center for Excellence (RCE). The technical thrusts of the RCE's research program are public transportation services, transportation management services, and international border transportation services. The research program also includes a support process consisting of an in-house technical advisory panel that assists with technology scanning, preliminary evaluations of emerging technologies, and technology integration.
