ESSENTIAL COMMONALITIES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF TRANSPORT TELEMATICS ARCHITECTURE IN EUROPE
The Advanced Transport Telematics (ATT) Program CORD project led by ERTICO is coordinating the SATIN Task Force on System Architecture. During 1994, SATIN concentrated on harmonizing and integrating transport telematics architecture results that were developed during the ATT Program. In 1995, while completing its current results, SATIN addressed a number of new issues, namely: 1) why and how reference models should be used in the development of a transport telematics system architecture; 2) creating more synergy with other working groups addressing the issue of data exchange; and 3) developing a list of high-level user requirements for elaborating and evaluating architectures. SATIN also contributed to the European standardization effort and to the preparation of a coordination activity on transport telematics architecture developments in the Fourth Framework Program, the new telematics applications program of the European Commission. This paper gives an overview of SATIN's results and discusses the new activities of the Fourth Framework Program in the field of transport telematics architectures.
