NOISE REDUCTION CHARACTERISTICS OF POROUS ELASTIC ROAD SURFACES
In this paper the authors extend upon their earlier work on developing a low-noise pavement by considering a porous elastic road surface. It is found that the noise characteristics of this surface are superior to those of a drainage asphalt pavement including the normal absorption coefficient. A significant total noise (power unit plus tire/road noise) reduction for the surface was found for both cars and trucks, 13 and 6 dB(A) respectively. In addition, in this paper, a new technique of processing the noise for short intervals is presented.
