OFFSHORE CATHODIC PROTECTION EXPERIENCE AND ECONOMIC REASSESSMENT
With over 1200 platform-years of offshore cathodic protection experience in the Gulf of Mexico, Exxon Company, U.S.A., using underwater inspection techniques, has evaluated the effectiveness of four basic types of cathodic protection systems. The results of the evaluation and an economic comparison of systems using current prices have led Exxon to a program of replacing existing hanging magnesium and impressed current systems with diver-installed aluminum systems.
