DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS IN NORWAY

The aim of this investigation was to study the frequency of the most common drug used among Norwegian drivers suspected for drugged and drunken driving in 1994. The authors have evaluated the sex differences in use of alcohol and drugs. The results were compared with data from earlier years and from other Nordic countries. The material consisted of routine samples sent to the National Institute of Forensic Toxicology in 1994. In 2,819 cases, drugs were suspected as the sole or additional cause of influence. Samples from female drivers represented 8.2 percent (549) and 10.6 percent (299) in the suspected drunken and drugged driver groups, respectively. All blood samples were first analyzed for alcohol.
