SUSTAINABLE TRAFFIC SAFETY STRATEGY
Based on information regarding pedestrian safety, the Dutch Pedestrians Association formulated proposals for a procedure for developing plans and for design standards for specific types of roads. These proposals were submitted to traffic safety officers, decision makers and other interested parties. The study aimed at a fair image of the conditions needed for shifting the balance to the advantage of traffic safety. Proposals of the Dutch Pedestrians Association are summarized. Results of the study are given, and obstacles to implementing state-of-the-art traffic safety programs and new strategies are summarized.
