WAVE SLAM ON HORIZONTAL MEMBERS OF AN OFFSHORE PLATFORM
This paper deals with wave slam on a horizontal member in the splash zone of an offshore platform. The results reported are from the first phase of a test program designed to develop an understanding of wave slam. An experimental study was performed in which a model was subjected to the action of regular waves in a laboratory tank. Results of this preliminary work, while not immediately applicable to design, provide greater insight into the nature of the forces involved, and clearly show the necessity of additional study and the questions such study must answer. This test also has demonstrated the feasibility of carrying out such studies in a laboratory environment at small scale.
