THE TOLL-RING IN OSLO
This chapter outlines the effects on travel behaviour of the Oslo Toll-ring. The system was brought into operation in February 1990 and after a year a research programme was undertaken to assess its effects. Two approaches were taken a) continuous registrations of cars and passengers on public transport and b) before and after studies based on interviews and postal questionnaires. The reduction in the volume of car trafffic was larger than expected at between 5 and 10%. Little change was seen in rush hour traffic but there was a reduction in leisure trips. Public transport usage was not increased by the Toll-ring. Different effects were seen on different groups of the population. For the covering abstract see IRRD 877091.
