SATELLITE POSITIONING TECHNIQUES IN THE ARCTIC
This paper describes TRANSIT Satellite Navigation Systems, installed on the Arctic ice pack in the spring of 1975. The systems supplied are measuring ice station separations over hundred kilometer baselines, to within a few meters and ice rotation to within plus or minus 2 degrees. To achieve this, several special techniques were implemented: automatic pass selection to optimize satellite tracking, time recovery to improve doppler counting and real time translocation for rapid evaluation of azimuth and strain parameters.
