OVERVIEW OF WORKSHOP BREAKOUT SESSIONS ON: MANAGEMENT - CONVERTING CHALLENGES INTO OPPORTUNITIES

The task of these breakout sessions was to debate the management aspects in public transportation and to identify the issues, barriers, and solutions to consider relative to the changing environment as discussed at this workshop. Session participants identified the following barriers and issues: transit agencies lack focus and direction; cultural and environmental barriers impede management decisions; governing boards fail to provide adequate leadership; management lacks leadership skills and/or management skills; and the structure and skills of the employee work force can cause management difficulties. Solutions identified by participants are listed.
