A VISION OF A COMPACT MOTOR STREET

VISIO TIIVIISTA MOOTTORIKADUSTA

A motor street is a route that has a relationship with its environment. The word "street" seeks to express the closeness of that relationship. A motor street can be functionally included in the street network of a city and the physical properties of a motor street may change adapting to the structure of the surrounding urban area. The aim of the study is to examine the properties of motor streets and to consider principles for solutions to the problems of such streets. The targets set for motor streets are presented from three points: why a motor street is built, what kind of environmental impacts it has and what properties it should have. The study contains a comparison of six motor streets built in Europe in recent years.
