FUNCTIONING PARKING DESIGN

The parking structure is viewed as an element of the traffic and transportation problem and the opinion is expressed that the street system, ingress and egress, and the flow through the structure must receive consideration before the mechanics of parking itself. Streets adjacent to the structure, and in the surounding area extrapolated to the freeway system should be carefully analyzed. Reservoirs in the street should be examined and problems peculiar to the operational function of the structure need to be considered. Efficient parking may be achieved in vertical parking by tilting column-free, ramp-free aisles and parking on low slopes. The currilinear problem of stall sizes and angles is discussed, and comment is made on the effect of revenue control on the design.
