VEHICLE REAR AND REAR-SIDE COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM USING OPTICAL FLOWS
This paper describes the methods and experimental results of a rear and rear-side collision warning system using optical flows applied to automobiles. To reduce the processing time for computation of optical flows, several methods are developed and examined. Also, focus of expansion (FOE) adjustment and compensation for vehicle movement caused by road surface conditions or other factors are examined. As a result, the combination of image processing and vibrational rate gyro is effective in adjusting the FOE and image fluctuation. Test results are presented.
