VICS INFORMATION AND ITS METHOD OF USE
In providing road traffic information, vehicle information and communication system (VICS) encourages proper and accurate application of information. The aim of VICS is not simply to provide information in a convenient manner appropriate to its method of use, but is to contribute to safer and smoother traffic-flow in areas where a large number of people are employing VICS equipment. Consequently, fast and quick spread of equipment that uses VICS is critical to achieve this aim. Studies have been conducted to promote proper and accurate application and the widespread use of VICS. It has been decided also that VICS will adopt distribution methods in line with these aims and that a number of distribution media of different characteristics will be used. As a result of an extensive study, three display methods--a map display, a simple graphic display, and a text display--and two information distribution media--intermittent micro-zone information distribution and wide-range information distribution--will be used in VICS.
