R&M REQUIREMENT FOR SHIPBOARD INCINERATORS
The paper deals with the reliability and maintainability portion of the Navy's research and development contract to develop, design and fabricate a multifunctional waste incinerator. The reliability and maintainability program is discussed from its inception through the design and testing of the prototype unit. Emphasis is placed on the effort that was necessary in defining realistic reliability and maintainability requirements, both qualitative and quantitative, the rationale behind the requirements, and how the Navy will verify the achievement of the requirements. Finally, the problems encountered during the preliminary stages of the program are dealt with.
