KEEPING TRACK: AN INVENTORY OF RAIL SERVICE TO U.S. URBAN AREAS
This article explores the evolving status of railroad service to American cities. Considering that many cities and industries rely heavily on railroad service, abandonments have potentially far-reaching implications for patterns of economic development in the United States. The findings offer new evidence that the fragmentation of the national rail system warrants additional debate.
