PARKING VIOLATION MONITORING AND WARNING SYSTEM

While most urban areas have instituted regulations that prohibit parking, smooth traffic flow is still impeded by illegally parked vehicles. In terms of traffic management, warnings or citations by police officers against these vehicles have only a temporary effect, as traffic flow cannot be maintained without constantly monitoring illegal parking to prevent it or to have such vehicles moved away. The purpose of the system that has been developed is to prevent parking violations by automatically detecting vehicles that intend to park illegally and giving the driver a warning by a displayed text and audio announcement, dissuading him from parking illegally and inducing him to move the vehicle. The elimination of illegal parking will accomplish the dual goal of reducing traffic congestion and accidents and facilitating safe, smooth-flowing traffic. The system has been installed in the Japanese cities of Fukushmia and Iwaki, where it is proving effective. This paper describes the composition and operation of the equipment of the system.
