GEOTECHNICAL ANALYSIS OF HOWES DAMS
This report presents the results of the condition survey and safety analysis of Howes Dams near Howes Corner, South Dakota. The condition survey showed that erosion has caused damage to abutment areas and the slope below the berm on the downstream side. Evidence of seepage was also noted. Overtopping is of great concern. A periodic inspection program for both dams should be implemented. Recommendations and procedures for such a program are included.
