The nation faces many transportation challenges, from managing traffic growth to ensuring access to jobs and sustaining the environment for future generations. Public transit can help meet these needs by providing high-quality service in congested corridors, offering low-cost transportation access for millions of Americans, and supporting pedestrian-oriented business districts and neighborhoods. This report introduces estimates of the value of these benefits. These findings can be the foundation for addressing many future transportation needs in the United States. The report is also available on the U.S. DOT Web-site at: http://www.fta.dot.gov.
