PARKING STRUCTURES: RECOMMENDED PRACTICE FOR DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

Because many parking structures utilize precast, prestressed concrete, this recommended practice covers the design, manufacture, and erection of precast, prestressed concrete parking structures. Excluded are most items common to precasting and prestressing in general. This manual is not intended to be used as either a specification or a code of practice. But is intended for the use of professional personnel who are competent to evaluate the significance and limitations of its content, and who will accept responsibility for the application of the material it contains. It is assumed that the reader has a basic knowledge of structural design and prestressed concrete design. The basic intent is to show the uniqueness of precast, prestressed concrete parking structures and to emphasize areas of special consideration required in the design of these structures. The designs and details presented are intended only as helpful aids to the qualified designer. Actual design details should conform to local practices and code requirements.
