FORMWORK, PLYWOOD AND EFFICIENCY

The author describes how money is wasted and inefficiency occurs in the use of plywood formwork which, it is suggested, warrants more consideration in selection, planning and care. The range of modern plywoods are listed and consideration given to their various strengths, surface qualities and re-use potential. Six areas are suggested where economies can be achieved in the use of formwork such as in planning, selection and correct handling. Achievement of the re-use potential is then discussed with the proposal that formwork should be thought of as plant rather than material. Design methods are considered and examples given of possible improvements. /TRRL/
